Oban

On the West coast of Scotland, Oban has some superb diving. In fact, it is one of those places that anyone should visit regardless of what their hobbies are. The scenery here and for miles around is absolutely stunning. Off to the north in the distance is Ben Nevis, and out to the west are the Inner Hebrides. To the south is the firth of Lorne and off to the east is the Trossachs National Park.
For the divers, there are plenty of wrecks around here and in the Sound of Mull. Many of the names are those put forward when a list of the best UK wrecks are being put together
There have been several trips here over the years and we have several more planned for the 2005 season. As well as this, there are several members who "pop" up there for the weekend. Not to everyones taste but still, the chance to dive this superb location is sometimes there.
As well having the use of a boat up there, the club has also used Puffin Divers on several occasions.

2002

Fourteen of us went up to Oban and spent a week sampling amongst other things, the local diving. There are some superb wrecks in the area quite a few of which appear in any guide to the best dive sites in the UK.
For the first part of the week, the RIB was around and most of the diving was done on the Breda - which was only a mile or so from where we were stopping - Tralee Caravan Park.
Once the RIB had gone, those of us that were left booked to go out with Puffin Divers. Apart from one day of hairy weather, most of the diving was done in the Sound of Mull and we dived on some of the excellent wrecks.

2004

There were a couple of trips to Oban in 2004. On the first trip a gang of us went up there for the August Bank Holiday. The weather was abslolutely spot on and the seas flat calm. This was the first time up there in the new boat and the way it handled the sea was incredible. It was taking no time at all to get up the Sound of Mull and onto the further dive sites.
The second time the weather was not quite so good and there at least one day when it was decided prudent not to venture out.

2005

The first major trip up to Oban was over the Easter bank holiday and following week. Some of the divers went up for the bank holiday and when they returned, another set went up there for the following week. Again, fair diving conditions were had by all.
